What is the Tampa Film Network? It is a group of individuals in the process of writing, producing, or directing independent films in or around the Tampa Bay area.

The idea of the Tampa Film Network stems from the Cambridge Film Network headed by Alison Mulford and based out of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. Filmmaker, Writer and Actor, Joe Davison had the pleasure to be the head of production for them for two years. In that time they managed to write, shoot, and finish four short films. Start to finish. Simply by working with each other from idea to casting to filming.

In February of 2006, Joe decided to form a similar group to the one in Cambrige and see if it could achieve the same progress in the Tampa area. Joe got friend and fellow filmmaker Chris Woods to come abord and the two started The Tampa Film Network.

Since then the group welcomed filmmakers, actors, writers, musicans, and film supportors to their meetings. The group is getting bigger and bigger everyday and we hope to grow even more in the next coming years.

The Tampa Film Network's Goal: To unite the independent film community and work towards better production values.

Our group meets once every other month and right now we're looking to start a committe within the group. We also launched tampafilmnetwork.com which lists Announcements, Castings, Productions, Film Events and Festivals. We also have a listing of filmmakers, actors, writers, etc., along with contact info. Check out our Event Calender, which is provided by Paul and Pete Guzzo from the Tampa Film Review, which is an event that happens every second Friday of the month in Ybor City where they showcase loacal independent films. We also have a Links and Gallery section as well as Contact information.

Chris Woods is the co-founder of The Tampa Film Network. He began working in television while attending college. As a student, he held many different jobs in that field including camera operator, director, editor, and graphics designer and also created a television series for the campus television station. From 1995-1997 along with his friends Simon Lynx and Luis Matos, they produced a horror anthology series called CREEPING DEATH. In 1997 Woods made the bizarre mind-twister short film SHADOW OF A VICTIM and in 1998 made the Sci-fi short thriller CHAMELEON which won 3 awards including, THE PROTOVIN PRIZE-best video, SOUTHERN SUNSHINE VIDEO AWARD-best entertainment program, and a honorable mention from the HOMETOWN VIDEO FESTIVAL.

For the next few years , Chris Woods spent most of his time writing and scouting locations for his new film which was a feature length entitled BLEED. In 2002, he officially formed ICON FILM STUDIOS, which included long time friends LYNX and MATOS. Later that year, he released BLEED and entered it in THE SAINTS AND SINNERS film festival. The film beat out 14 films and brought home the SINNER AWARD for best film. In that same year, reviewer JOE BOB BRIGGS gave BLEED Four Stars.

From 2002-2004 ICON FILM STUDIOS made several short films which included; REMEMBRANCE which got a honorable mention for SPECIAL EFFECTS at another SAINTS AND SINNERS FESTIVAL, RED MOON, TO LIVE IS TO DIE, and BROKEN TOMORROW .

Between 2004 and 2005 ICON expanded and grew to 13 members, 2 of which are musicians and create all of ICON’s music. By 2005, ICON started work on a feature film called POP and completed another short film called SEVER which is currently being shown throughout Florida in festivals.

In addition to Woods’ own projects, his company has assisted many other filmmakers with their films, in the roles of editing, poster design, and web design. In late 2005, Chris Woods started working for The Horror Channel. Since then he has edited programs, opens, and promos for the channel and will also be co-producing a new series that will debut later in 2006.

A native of Upstate New York, Woods dreamed of being a filmmaker since his early teens. He attended The University of Tampa where he received a Bachelors degree in COMMUNICATIONS.
